A unique Kotpad with three parts, the centre part is Maroon with stripes sandwiched between Rust and Offwhite temple border. The saree is from the National award winning master weaver Kapileshwar Mohonto and our association with him dates back to 2008 when Kotpads were a not so common weave for the uninitiated. These kotpads are the original weaves from this community worn by the tribals and with time and intervention the texture has been modified to suit most. Although this original weave is thick, it is a stunning piece of craft that stands tall even among the brightest and most expensive silks. Looks best when combined with "
Saraswati", "
Dhaara", "
Savitri" or "
Tatpara" blouse that are made out of kotpad fabrics. Paired here with
Shakuntala Maroon Shambhalpuri.
Kotpad Handloom is a vegetable-dyed fabric woven by the tribal weavers of the Mirgan community of Kotpad village in Koraput district, Odisha. All the dyes used are organic for the drapes and textiles. It takes approximately 15 to 30 days for processing the color and dyeing threads into different colors. The main colors extracted are black and maroon. But these days we see some variation in colours and you cant but fall in love with them. These textiles are very easy to care for and we usually advice handwash with mild detergent but owing to certain precautions not followed by some customers we have started advising dry cleaning. These fabrics in fact have a unique shine once they are carefully washed in water.
