Modal, which is usually referred to as Modal "Silk" owing to its texture, fall and a subtle shine is a cellulosic fibre made with beech tree pulp that are spun to make Modal Silk Fabric. This fabric is a great canvas for all kinds of block prints and tie and dye especially Ajrak, Bandini and Shibori. The fabric is usually blended with Cotton to give the wearer a soft feel on the inside and a polished subtle gleam on the outside. There is a dispute and disagreement whether this fabric should be termed as silk but the word silk is added here only to indicate the fall, shine and texture of the fabric.
